Binnenkijken in de Japandi 2-onder-1-kapwoning van Marit

Inside view of Marit's Japandi semi-detached house

We take a look inside Marit's semi-detached house in Drachten, where she lives with her partner, daughter and newborn son. The interior consists of a harmonious mix of modern and Japandi.

From city hustle and bustle to peace and space

After almost two years of searching for a new home, with the birth of their first daughter Aimee in between, Marit and her family have finally found their dream home. In May 2024, they moved to a more spacious place that perfectly suits their growing family. The previous house, with characteristic elements, soon turned out to be too small when second child Senn was on the way. Where they used to rent on a busy road closer to the center of Drachten, they now opted for a home in a nice neighborhood. Last summer they were already able to enjoy it to the fullest, with a cup of coffee on the bench in front of the house while the children played outside.

Japandi style combined with old elements

Marit's living style is inspired by Japandi in combination with trendy influences and a personal touch. Although they like to look at trends, they translate them in their own way. In order to take a piece of the previous home with them, they chose to re-use the ceiling and floor skirting boards in the new house. The interior design plan was carefully prepared, but once they moved in, it still felt different than expected. A perfect opportunity to really make the new home their own.

From Instagram to showroom choice

Marit discovered By SIDDE via Instagram and in their previous home they chose the Mads sofa without trying it out. However, it did not do it justice in their new home. After visiting the showroom in Heerenveen, they set their sights on the Vita sofa in the colour Latte Cream, which fits perfectly in terms of dimensions and is more practical. People often ask: "A white sofa?", but for them the choice was clear: they simply did not like anything else. They opted for the leak guarantee, because they had already had good experiences with their previous sofa in that area. In the evenings, they like to sit together on the sofa and slide the Hocker next to it to stretch out.

Accessories with a story

Marit's favorite items in the house are the organic mirror in the living room, which creates extra space, the atmospheric lamps above the dining table, and the vases from her Beppe. After her Beppe passed away last year, the grandchildren were allowed to go through the house and put their names on things they wanted to keep. In this way, the vases not only have a place in her interior, but they also bring a bit of personality and meaning. View the favorite items here.

Dreams and tips

A dream for the family is to create even more space in the dining area in the future.

Their tip: if you see something beautiful, first consider whether you can make it yourself. This way you can adjust it to a wider size or unique shape. They also advise not to tackle everything at once. First experience how you use a space and think carefully about what you really need. Only when you know for sure what you are missing, you make the right choices.
