Colorful and Atmospheric Living in a Farmhouse
A colorful and atmospheric farmhouse interior with a large corner sofa as its eye-catcher: stepping into Susan’s home feels like an inspiration for anyone who loves country living with a modern twist. Since 2021, she has been living here with her husband, three daughters, dog, cat, and twenty chickens in a beautifully renovated farmhouse from 1885. It’s a place where history, coziness, and a personal style full of color come together.
From Old Farm to Family Home
Susan and her family’s farmhouse has a special story. The previous owners moved to Spain, and on Valentine’s Day they received the keys. In just two months, the place underwent major renovation, with plenty of demolition and painting work they did themselves. By May 2021, the time had come: they moved into the former pigsty and hay barn, which had been transformed into a modern living and dining area with a cozy kitchen. With new floors, a custom-made kitchen, and a layout that offers space for both togetherness and privacy, the house truly feels like a dream come true.
A Colorful Interior Full of Personality
What immediately stands out about Susan is her love for color. Shades of pink have gradually found their way into her home, creating a warm atmosphere together with accessories such as rugs and candles. The foundation of her interior is formed by calm, neutral elements, like the By SIDDE sofa Sommer, which perfectly complements the lively accents in the space.
"For me, color means coziness and cheerfulness – really a way to express yourself."
The Sofa as the Heart of the Living Room
Finding a new sofa was an important part of furnishing the house for Susan and her husband. In their previous home they already had a Sommer sofa, but for their spacious farmhouse they wanted something bigger. Using paper and cardboard, they measured out the XL version in their living room and realized it was the perfect choice. Now, the sofa takes center stage in the space and forms the heart of their colorful interior. “The Oat beige color provides a calm foundation and makes my love for color and accessories stand out even more,” Susan explains.
Personal Touches
There are several eye-catchers in the interior. One is a painting featuring her original bridal bouquet, a precious reminder of their wedding in the garden. The shelving unit is another favorite, as Susan loves endlessly swapping accessories and seasonal decorations. She draws inspiration mainly from Instagram and current trends, but prefers to buy furniture and accessories that genuinely make her happy. Future wishes? A new bathroom downstairs and perhaps an extra dining table by the kitchen island to create even more space for cozy meals together.
Susan’s Tips
"Follow your gut and choose items that make you happy. Trends are fun for inspiration, but your home should radiate warmth and personality."
