A peek inside Bente's house
Interior styling is, for many, a way to bring a personal atmosphere into the home. For Bente—who works in marketing and often takes on projects for companies in the home and lifestyle industry—it’s no different. Her house is a beautiful reflection of her style: Japandi with a touch of color, calm tones combined with dark wood accents.
"My interior changes often, what I like today might already be different tomorrow."
From dream to reality
Bente and her boyfriend chose a prefab new-build home. The construction went incredibly fast since much of it had already been prepared in the factory. But despite the speed, making decisions was sometimes stressful for Bente, given her ever-changing taste. “You have to make choices that you’ll need to love for years, and that wasn’t easy,” she says. That’s why she went with a calm base, using beige tones that gave a timeless look.
The layout
From the very beginning, the layout of their home was an important focus. They knew the sofa had to be placed in the middle of the living room, so they could fully enjoy the natural light and the view of the garden through the doors.
The choice of sofa was deliberate: the sofa Finn. “The shapes are beautiful, and it’s ideal that you can play with different setups.” Since the sofa goes all the way down to the floor, it’s perfect for placing in the middle of the room. Although Bente doubted between beige or green, she ultimately chose Simply beige. A color that fits beautifully with the Japandi style when combined with dark wood tones
“The sofa was an eye-catcher; it was love at first sight.”
Practical tips
Bente has a few practical tips for anyone working on furnishing a home. One of her most important pieces of advice: make a shared mood board if you’re living together. This not only helps to define your style visually but also makes it easier to plan the division of space. When they were unsure about the sofa’s placement, they used cardboard boxes to map out the size and see where everything fit best.
By carefully thinking through the layout and keeping a flexible mindset, you can create an interior you’ll enjoy for years to come.
“If you quickly get tired of things, make smaller choices that you can swap out.”
Interior wishes
In the future, Bente hopes to adapt her interior even further. She would love to add a bar in the kitchen—complete with bar stools—and bring in some artwork for the walls. For her, it’s important that the home continues to evolve, just like her taste.
